I flip flop around with genres and age groups quite a bit. My main focus now is my middle-grade fantasy, “For the King’s Table” which refuses to wind up. Twas once a short story, grew to a novella, insisted on becoming a novel and now has expanded to a series. Oh dear!
I do love short story writing especially as there are so many competitions out there that give you an outlet for this form. One of the best aspects of short story writing is that it enables you to experiment outside your comfort zone re genre and voice without too much risk or time investment.
For an example of my short children’s writing see – Fish Tales
